Welcome to our community

The Town of Colton serves as the southern entrance to the Palouse Scenic Byway on U.S. Highway 195 located in southeastern  Washington.

It is a halfway point for the Quad Cities being about 16 miles between the Pullman-Moscow area and the Lewiston-Clarkston Valley.

Early settlers were immigrant farmers but the communities now welcome people from all walks of life. The population of Colton is about 430.

The Colton Consolidated School District enjoys small class sizes, excellent academics and a stellar athletic program. Other public amenities within the community include a branch of the Whitman County Library and two well-maintained parks.

Colton residents have a choice between two state universities, a state college and two community colleges. Along with two regional airports and the other amenities of the larger cities to the north and south.

Our History

The story of Colton began in 1879

L. J. Wolford, Roy Woodworth and Dr. Cole, being dissatisfied with the proprietor of Uniontown, decided to found a town of their own. They acquired the property from Gregory Koshier and the town was platted that year.
